A Little Something I’m Working On

A Little Something I’m Working On

I wanted to let you in on something I’ve been quietly working on behind the scenes.

I’m writing a short story set in the same world as my novels—one that captures the tone, atmosphere, and kind of storytelling I love, but in a shorter, more accessible form. My goal is simple: I want new readers to be able to step into my stories with no pressure, no risk, and no commitment beyond a little time and curiosity.

This short story will be free, and it’s meant to serve as an introduction—to the setting, the voice, and the kinds of characters and themes you’ll find in my longer work. Think of it as a doorway rather than a sales pitch. A chance to see if this world is one you want to stay in awhile.

I’m taking my time with it because I don’t want it to feel like a throwaway bonus. I want it to feel complete, meaningful, and memorable on its own. Something that lingers after the last page.

Which brings me to you.

When you pick up a short story, what are you hoping to find?

A strong hook?

Atmosphere?

A twist?

Character depth?

Emotional weight?

I’d genuinely love to know what makes a short story work for you. Your feedback will help shape this one into something worth reading—and worth sharing.

Thanks for being here. More soon.

Charles
